Frequently Asked Questions

What does ExpiresOn track?

Anything with a deadline: passports, driver's licenses, vehicle registrations, insurance policies, warranties, return windows, subscriptions, professional certifications, food expiration, and more. If it expires or needs renewal, ExpiresOn tracks it.

What's the difference between "Expires" and "Act by"?

The expiration date is when something actually expires. The "Act by" date is when you should start taking action, based on the lead time you set. For example, a passport expiring in 9 months with a 240-day lead time has an "Act by" date of about 1 month from now — because passport renewals take months.

How do notification ladders work?

Each category has default lead times — the days before expiration when you'll be notified. For example, Documents & ID defaults to 240, 180, 90, and 30 days. You get four separate reminders, escalating in urgency. You can customize these per category or per item.

Can I scan my passport or driver's license?

Yes, on iPhone and iPad. Point your camera at the Machine Readable Zone (the text at the bottom of a passport) or the barcode on the back of a US/Canadian driver's license. ExpiresOn extracts the expiration date automatically. All scanning happens on your device — no images are uploaded anywhere.

Does ExpiresOn work offline?

Yes. The app works fully offline. iCloud sync happens automatically when you're connected, but all core features work without an internet connection.

How does calendar sync work?

Toggle "Sync to Calendar" on any item to create an all-day event on the "Act by" date. You can set this globally, per category, or per item, and choose which calendar each goes to. Events include the expiration date, cost, and a link back to the item in ExpiresOn.

What happens when I renew something?

Tap "Mark as Renewed" on any recurring item. The app archives the old item to History (restorable for 90 days), creates a new item with the next expiration date, and reschedules all notifications and calendar events automatically.

Is there a subscription?

No. ExpiresOn is a one-time purchase of $9.99 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. No subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases.

Can I export my data?

Yes. ExpiresOn supports CSV and PDF export. You can also import items from CSV files with automatic column mapping and date format detection.
